Description Brian G. Anderson 2011-04-20 12:05:48 UTC
Description of problem:
I plug in my iPhone 3GS and it fails to appear as a mounted device. Using dmesg I see the following output:

[ 353.264579] usb 2-1.2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10
[ 353.353682] usb 2-1.2: New USB device found, idVendor=05ac, idProduct=1294
[ 353.353688] usb 2-1.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 353.353693] usb 2-1.2: Product: iPhone
[ 353.353696] usb 2-1.2: Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
[ 353.353700] usb 2-1.2: SerialNumber: 38361e0ccfff7e0fb3cc83bdac30181b73801a8f
[ 353.950191] ipheth 2-1.2:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
[ 354.019337] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
[ 356.330621] iphone-set-info[2058]: segfault at 0 ip 000000331172654f sp 00007fffce075ea8 error 4 in libc-2.13.90.so[3311600000+192000]

Now a couple of interesting points.
1) the iphone-set-info problem occurs in fc14 too, but the phone still appears in the nautilus file manager as a device and it is mounted in ~/.gvfs. In fc15, the iPhone is not visible in .gvfs or nautilus

2) shotwell however sees the iPhone as a camera device and lets me download photos

3) the iPhone is not visible using banshee

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
libgpod-0.8.0-7.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plug in iPhone
2.
3.

Actual results:
No iPhone device is visible

Expected results:

As of the FC15 updates of 5/10, I no longer get the iphone-set-info error message. However, the phone still doesn't mount as a USB drive or is not visible to Banshee. It does appear in network manager.

It will never appear as a "USB drive", but there should be ways to access it. Is gvfs-afc installed?

I do not and that was the magic sauce I was missing. Thanks for setting me straight: now I see it in the file manager and in banshee.

Rhythmbox drags it as a dependency, to make sure there's no such problems. You might want to file a bug against banshee to do the same thing.

Closing this bug, as the problem is fixed.
