Description Upen 2011-04-21 21:11:02 UTC
Description of problem:

Alpine package does not have Maildir (md) format support. If the chappa's patch can be included and package rebuilt it will be a great great help!

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.00-9.el6

How reproducible:

alpine -supported

Mailbox drivers:
  mbox
  imap
  nntp
  pop3
  mix
  mx
  mbx
  tenex
  mtx
  mh
  mmdf
  unix
  news
  phile
  dummy

No 'md' driver

Steps to Reproduce:
1. yum erase alpine
2. yum install alpine
3. alpine --supported and look for 'md' in Mailbox drivers

Actual results:

Maildir (md) support not availablein alpine package making me go mbox format for Mailbox format.

Expected results:

Maildir support should be available in latest package.

Additional info:

I just installed alpine on my Gentoo x86_64 and they had the patch included with alpine package. If it can be done by EPEL, it will be amazing, other mbox is my way (Some people must use alpine and thanks for having alpine in EPEL repo)

Not an agedu bug. Reassigning.

Comment 2 Upen 2011-05-12 14:05:09 UTC
Any idea, if this can be done, else I have dicovered a workaround by copying alpine binary from Gentoo x86_64 to RHEL 6(x86_64) system :)

Comment 3 Rex Dieter 2011-05-12 14:40:45 UTC
Stock upstream (re)alpine doesn't support Maildir, and the author of the patches providing maildir support has (afaik) requested it not be included upstream either.

If the upstream situation changes, great, but in the meantime I'm of a mind -> WONTFIX. sorry.

Comment 4 Upen 2011-05-12 14:50:34 UTC
OK, thanks for the quick update.

I will see what are my best options, I have found multiple easier alternatives , such as using imap instead of maildir, imap(password less) instead of imap or copy alpine binary from a system where alpine is patched.

Hope for the best.
