Problem is not a bug but a dependency problem: The installation of the HAL packages from org.freedesktop.Hal solved the problem. Joan
Which packages exactly?
Steve, The packages which I installed are: - Hardware Abstraction Layer (hal-0.5.14-6fc15) - Libraries and headers for HAL (hal-devel-0.5.14-6.fc15) - Generic handler for HAL events (halevt-0.1.6.2-4.fc15) - Filesystem layout for HAL (hal-filesystem-0.5.14-6.fc15) - Device information files for HAL (hal-info-20090716-4fc15) - Libraries for accessing HAL ( hal-libs-0.14-6.fc15) Just type hal in find of add/remove software and you find the hal packages, the package manager for gnome will install some package dependencies which I don't remember exactly, but there was something with bus, so I believe the are also important. I hope this solves the problem for you!
# yum install hal Thank you!

Yes, command "# yum install hal" fixes the problem. hal packages should be included in RPM spec as dependencies.

Does not start in F16, probably caused by the lack of hal. Package: gnome-lirc-properties-0.5.1-3.fc15 OS Release: Fedora release 16 (Verne)
Started gnome-lirc-properties and it crashed immediately. rating: (null) Package: gnome-lirc-properties-0.5.1-3.fc15 Architecture: x86_64 OS Release: Fedora release 16 (Verne)
Apparently the hal packages are no longer available in F16. It looks like gnome-lirc-properties will have to be rewritten to use something other than hal. But until then I think the package ought to be removed from F16 as there is no easy way to fix this - at least I can't think of any.

Maybe due to HAL removal? - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-lirc-properties/+bug/685438 - http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/HalRemoval
Quick workaround: $ sudo yum --nogpgcheck --enablerepo fedora --releasever 15 install hal

This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
