Description of problem: Back in GNOME2 days, Software Update and Software Updates were under separate menus, so it was clear(er) that one was a preference and one was the actual updater. With GNOME3, you hit the Activities corner, start typing Update, and you get two icons that differ by only one letter. The icons don't really indicate which is which either. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-packagekit-3.0.0-1.fc15.x86_64
That's actually a major problem, good catch. -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
I'm making a patch to fix this, but IMO it should be moved to gnome's control panel for 3.2 -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers

This commit in upstream git changed "Software Updates" to "Software Settings": http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-packagekit/commit/?id=2c9377d1c3cf8daa6149a3770460c035700738e0 This change is included in version 3.1.90-2.fc16, available in koji, but not pushed to updates yet: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=261125
"Software Settings"? Seriously? That's totally non-intuitive. It's not settings for the software, it's settings for the software UPDATES. "Software Update Settings" or even "Update Settings" would make far more sense. Sheesh.
(In reply to comment #7) > "Software Settings"? Seriously? That's totally non-intuitive. It's not settings > for the software, it's settings for the software UPDATES. "Software Update > Settings" or even "Update Settings" would make far more sense. Sheesh. I agree, it's still confusing. We should move this discussion upstream though. -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
