rhythmbox crashed randomly, on new and on old music-files (all ogg files). BUT lastfm runs stable, although other web-radio. Tried the altenate app 'listen', which give me a error related to gstreamer before it crashed (sure: i do not remeber what it was...) THEN i look at my sound-options, there are 2 entries at Output [german: "Ausgabe"]: 'Barts HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6800 Series]...' and 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo'. The HDMI one was enabled (dont know why, can not remember to change it to hdmi, always was 'Internal...'. So i switched back to 'Internal', and now it runs, and runs, and runs...

This bug is seven month old and seems to be happen very often, at least for me. Bastien: Do you have an idea what's going wrong here? The depth of the call chain of the segmentation fault is quiet impressiv! It seems as rhythmbox wants to change the source of playbin2 with gst_play_bin_get_property() but this for some reason segfaults. can help you to debug this? What breakpoints/watchpoints do you want me to set?
Proposed patch for PlayBin2: This bug seems to happen, because g_object_get sometimes seems to copy invalid data into "source". Guard copy process by taking a lock. diff --git a/gst/playback/gstplaybin2.c b/gst/playback/gstplaybin2.c index e01ff6c..73a15c7 100644 --- a/gst/playback/gstplaybin2.c +++ b/gst/playback/gstplaybin2.c @@ -3430,11 +3430,13 @@ notify_source_cb (GstElement * uridecodebin, GParamSpec * pspec, GstSourceGroup * group) { GstPlayBin *playbin; - GstElement *source; + GstElement *source = NULL; playbin = group->playbin; + GST_OBJECT_LOCK (group->uridecodebin); g_object_get (group->uridecodebin, "source", &source, NULL); + GST_OBJECT_UNLOCK (group->uridecodebin); GST_OBJECT_LOCK (playbin); if (playbin->source)
Thomas, could you file a bug in GStreamer upstream at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=gstreamer ? Thanks!
Please forget my patch. I just tested it and it's wrong because it deadlocks. the uridecodebin lock is taken later on in the call chain, so the looking seems to be okay here. it seems as the passed group->uridecodebin is sometimes NULL! I did open a bug report upstream. I really want this bug to get fixed as it makes rhythmbox as music player nearly useless! https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670321

This bug seems to be fixed in 2.95 (i.e. commit 3a5b74ee288e52255ee3786f89e389289c22d756)
Are you sure you copied the correct commit? That commit is for something relating to iPods and not sound playback. This Gnome bug sounds *very* similar to this bug and it was fixed in a commit one month past what is in F16. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=646405 @Bastien, can you spool up a F16 update for at least that commit and/or rhythmbox 2.95?
(In reply to comment #97) > This Gnome bug sounds *very* similar to this bug and it was fixed in a commit > one month past what is in F16. Sorry, I read my months wrong. The fix mentioned should be in the F16 package, so it may not be the same bug or the fix was incorrect.
For adventurous folks you can try my scratch build for 2.95: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3875305
(In reply to comment #99) > For adventurous folks you can try my scratch build for 2.95: > http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3875305 Wow, it removes the duplicates (orphans), very cool! rhythmbox-2.95-1.fc16.x86_64
(In reply to comment #99) > For adventurous folks you can try my scratch build for 2.95: > http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3875305 This version seems to be very stable. I'm listening now about 12 hours without a crash..

I don't know the commit id that actually did fix this bug. maybe someone want's to bisect this? I'm fine with using 2.95 :-)
Backtrace analysis of bugs across components suggests the actual bug is in component gstreamer, gstreamer-plugins-base or glib2 instead of component rhythmbox, reassigning to gstreamer. This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
