-----
1. Open Rythmbox
2. Listen to song
3. Song doesn't quite finish
4. Try to skip to next song
5. Crash

I haven't been able to reproduce this yet. It seemed rather spontaneous.

This has happened to me some times in the last days. Rhythmbox stops playing music at the last 5 secs of a song. Then I have to close it and restart it. When I restart it, it doesn't find any music, and if I click play it crashes. After that, I can restart Rhythmbox normally.

It had been running for the whole night, and when I woke up there was no more music. I tried hitting the start button a few times, sliding the progress bar from right to left but in the end it just crashed.

Comment 69 raypotassium 2011-12-17 16:17:03 UTC
After yum upgrade (all).
I played some mp3(with libmad and gstreamer-plugins-ugly in rpmfusion-nonfree package repository, it can be played.) files in rhythmbox. I played it randomly. At first time, it couldn't play mp3 musics. I remove .gstreamer in home directory and it worked. But after playing some musics, it suddenly stopped and when I replayed it, rhythmbox made this error. And I started rhythmbox again, it played one music and worked same.

rhythmbox crashed randomly, on new and on old music-files (all ogg files). BUT lastfm runs stable, although other web-radio.
Tried the altenate app 'listen', which give me a error related to gstreamer before it crashed (sure: i do not remeber what it was...)

THEN i look at my sound-options, there are 2 entries at Output [german: "Ausgabe"]: 'Barts HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6800 Series]...' and 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo'. The HDMI one was enabled (dont know why, can not remember to change it to hdmi, always was 'Internal...'. So i switched back to 'Internal', and now it runs, and runs, and runs...

This bug is seven month old and seems to be happen very often, at least for me.

Bastien: Do you have an idea what's going wrong here? The depth of the call chain of the segmentation fault is quiet impressiv!

It seems as rhythmbox wants to change the source of playbin2 with gst_play_bin_get_property() but this for some reason segfaults. can help you to debug this? What breakpoints/watchpoints do you want me to set?

Comment 85 Thomas Meyer 2012-02-16 22:48:18 UTC
Proposed patch for PlayBin2:

This bug seems to happen, because g_object_get sometimes seems to copy invalid data into "source". Guard copy process by taking a lock.

Thomas, could you file a bug in GStreamer upstream at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=gstreamer ? Thanks!

Comment 87 Thomas Meyer 2012-02-17 20:53:48 UTC
Please forget my patch. I just tested it and it's wrong because it deadlocks. the uridecodebin lock is taken later on in the call chain, so the looking seems to be okay here. it seems as the passed group->uridecodebin is sometimes NULL!

I did open a bug report upstream. I really want this bug to get fixed as it makes rhythmbox as music player nearly useless!

Compiling with -O0 seems to fix the bug for me.

Oops! The bug still happens! But only after running rhythmbox yesterday the whole day. maybe building without optimizations reduces the likelihood of this bug?!

Comment 94 Sam Tuke 2012-03-04 02:25:12 UTC
I renamed a folder containing music files already in RB's collection. I tried to play the tracks. They could not be found. I reimported the folder containing the tracks. I tried to play the tracks again (two copies of each track now listed in RB). Out of a list of several tracks the first played and then stopped about two seconds before the end of the track and RB crashed.

This bug seems to be fixed in 2.95 (i.e. commit 3a5b74ee288e52255ee3786f89e389289c22d756)

Comment 97 Michael Cronenworth 2012-03-09 20:31:51 UTC
Are you sure you copied the correct commit? That commit is for something relating to iPods and not sound playback.

This Gnome bug sounds *very* similar to this bug and it was fixed in a commit one month past what is in F16.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=646405

@Bastien, can you spool up a F16 update for at least that commit and/or rhythmbox 2.95?

Sorry, I read my months wrong. The fix mentioned should be in the F16 package, so it may not be the same bug or the fix was incorrect.

sorry, I actually wanted to say: its the HEAD of rhythmbox I did use for testing. this is not the commit itself that fixes this issue described in this bug. but rhythmbox with above HEAD (maybe earlier?) seems to have this bug fixed. I don't know the commit id that actually did fix this bug. maybe someone want's to bisect this? I'm fine with using 2.95 :-)

Comment 103 abrt-bot 2012-03-21 17:40:12 UTC
Backtrace analysis of bugs across components suggests the actual bug is in component gstreamer, gstreamer-plugins-base or glib2 instead of component rhythmbox, reassigning to gstreamer.

Bugs which were found to be similar to this bug:

Comment 106 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 17:55:17 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
