I got the same problem on my machine. The new Fedora 15 Live KDE x32 does not boot. I have the same problem in VirtualBox as well. Should you need any details about my machine do not hesitate to ask.
Forgot to mention that I have a similar problem in OpenSUSE 11.4. However, the latest Ubuntu (11.04) works okay.
Sorry for the nose, I was able to solve this problem. It seems like the version of unetbootin I was using to flash FC 15 onto USB flash drive is not working properly with FC15 iso. After I used liveusb creator from fedora web site it worked like a charm.
Chuck Ebbert, are you in right mind? Why closing a bug? Just delete some flood by Volodymyr Shcherbyna, and fix it!
Can you capture the boot messages from the serial port? There's nothing useful in the screenshot.
How is it possible? It's an early stage of boot process :( I select to boot live-cd from it's menu, and after 1-2 seconds I have frozen PC.
Just tried to boot without HDD, w/o External GPU, with only one unit of 2gb RAM - no results. For information, my motherboard is - ZOTAC LGA775 GF9300-I-E mini-ITX, with E8400 CPU. After selecting "Boot", or other 2 options, I see only grey screen and that's all.
We can't fix install media. Have you tried booting the F16 Alpha or F16 Beta test candidate isos with any success?
Just tried 16-Alpha - the same results. FYI: I've tried many distribs, and only one did load, because it has an option to turn off ACPI, which helped.
acpi=off should work on all distributions, but it would obviously be a good thing to figure out why it's failing with it enabled. Can you boot with initcall_debug=1 and post another screenshot. That should show us the last thing that was initialised before we crashed. (do this with acpi enabled, so you get the hang).
Just tried Fedora 16 Alpha with acpi=off, it worked, but Gnome 3 said, that it will load in fall back mode. Here the screenshot of hang up (with acpi): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1983471/PICS/Linux/fedora16a_boot_hang.jpg Hint: All the latest distributions hang up. But previous versions all boot up normally. I tried Ubuntu, openSUSE, Alt Linux and some others...
strange, that screenshot doesn't seem to showing the debugging info from initcall_debug. Given that we don't respin media once it's released, I'll move this to be an f16 bug, so we can hopefully get it fixed for release. Can you attach the output from acpidump (it's in the pmtools package).
Here it is: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1983471/acpidump.txt But I'm booted with acpi=off, don't know if it matters.
Are you still seeing this with F16 and/or the F17 Alpha?
F16 does NOT boot like F15. Just checked. F17 Alpha boots ok!
(In reply to comment #16) > F16 does NOT boot like F15. Just checked. > > F17 Alpha boots ok! OK, that's good news. At this point I think we're going to have to close this as NEXTRELEASE. F16 should pick up the fixes when it rebases to the 3.3 kernel, but that won't fix the install media at all.
