Description of problem: service openvpn start does no longer ask for username or password when started as it used to do in fedora 14. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): whatever id currently in fedora 15, will update precise version number later tonight. How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1. place credentials in /etc/openvpn (liteca.crt, openvpn.conf) 2.service openvpn start 3.get "OK" as answer Actual results: openvpn asks for username and password and either responds "OK" on successful username and password, or "FAIL" if username and password is wrong. Expected results: openvpn should ask for username and password and connect to the vpn. Additional info: This is working on fedora 14, same procedure.
Version-Release openvpn-2.1.4-1.fc15.x86_64
Might be related to the following bug on opensuse 11.4 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=675406
Specifiying Version and platform.
(In reply to comment #2) > Might be related to the following bug on opensuse 11.4 > https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=675406 Yes, that pretty clearly looks like the same. systemd and OpenVPN do not get along.

As I am absolutely dependent on the use of openvpn for my daily work this bug renders fc15 useless for the time being. A quick solution to this problem would be very much appreciated.
Ralf: just call openvpn directly instead of using the service.
My boss worked out this workaround which works fine: Start openvpn using the following line and you will be asked for the passphrase of the private key, after that the service will start: sudo /bin/bash -c "cd /etc/init.d; _use_systemctl=0 ./openvpn start" Hope this helps.
SUSE just put out this fix: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/80110
Upstream has implemented it: http://openvpn.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=openvpn/openvpn-testing.git;a=commit;h=9449e6a9eba30c9ed054f57d630a88c9f087080f
oops - sorry I forgot to note here that I was corresponding with the Suse team about sending it upstream. Thanks, Frederic!
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
