Description Susi Lehtola 2011-05-23 11:32:52 UTC
The screen of my
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV610 [Radeon HD 2400 XT]

is totally garbled, completely random junk is displayed. When the mouse is moved a moving (garbled) box can be seen on the screen.

Switching to a virtual console and back to X crashes the screen (nothing is seen anymore).

The issue is present in
 kernel-2.6.38.6-26.rc1.fc15.x86_64
and
 kernel-2.6.38.6-27.fc15.x86_64

The previous version
 kernel-2.6.38.5-24.fc15.x86_64
works fine (although I've experienced a few OOPS with this one, too; unfortunately abrt hasn't produced any crash dumps).

Probably caused by;

* Tue May 03 2011 Dave Airlie <airlied> 2.6.38.5-23
- radeon updates from 2.6.39 with cayman + fixes for lots of things including Fusion.

Comment 2 Dave Airlie 2011-05-27 06:21:09 UTC
can you get an dmesg and Xorg log from it?

Oops messages

An OOPS log for the older kernels that didn't suffer from the garbled display problem.

Comment 7 Dave Airlie 2011-10-12 12:34:08 UTC
did you install fglrx at any point in between?

Comment 8 Susi Lehtola 2011-10-12 12:41:11 UTC
I got a new desktop in August so I can't help in debugging this any longer.

IIRC I didn't have fglrx installed.

Comment 9 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 14:37:44 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
