Petr, Yes, I'd been meaning to look into that. Jack, I'm waiting for my recent samtools updates to go into EPEL proper. Once that's done, I'll make an EL6 branch of perl-Bio-SamTools.
Thanks, Adam, looking forward to it. You're probably already aware that EL6 doesn't have perl-bioperl. Getting that built as a pre-req for perl-Bio-SamTools was a bit of work.
I've already done perl-bioperl for EL5, which was indeed quite a slog... Stymied a little at the moment as I don't have an EL6 installation, but I've applied for an EPEL-based entitlement. Anyway, samtools is now in EL6.
Unfortunately, this package depended on perl-bioperl, which was orphaned. So I had to orphan this one too, because I can't commit to maintaining perl-bioperl.
