Created attachment 501091 [details] logged backtrace I am trying to log in a network user via nis. (I can do "su - username" successfully from the command line, so nis is working OK). I can enter the user's name in the "Other..." dialog, and the password dialog is then shown, but it is frozen. The password can not be entered. A crash is reported to /var/log/messages. The backtrace is attached. How reproducible: 100% gdm-3.0.0-3.fc15.x86_64 - Mike
Same problem/backtrace here but using LDAP authentication
A small workaround if the users on that machine are always the same and there are not roaming users using it, create those users locally with adduser using the same uid/gid in order to have them listed on the GDM greeter, skipping the need to write the username
See also the upstream bug report: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=651180 I found that after adding users locally and logging in with them, gdm started working OK even if they were removed again from the local accounts. - Mike
gdm 3.0.4 solves this issue for me, see bug #690873
