Comment 1 Rodrigo Messias Barros 2011-05-27 21:09:39 UTC
I run comand "biosdevname -i em1" or "biosdevname -i eth0" and the system completely frozen.

Comment 2 Chuck Ebbert 2011-06-15 15:41:39 UTC

Comment 5 Mark Einon 2011-07-10 08:45:29 UTC
I also encounter this crash/freeze using Fedora 15 on an eeePC 1000H, albeit with a custom kernel (staging-2.6 3.0.0-rc6 at present, but encountered on all kernels build since ~2.6.38).

I attach the full dmesg trace and .config for this issue.

full dmesg for eee901 with kernel 2.6.40-4.fc15.i686.PAE

Previous kernels ( 2.6.38.8-32.fc15.i686.PAE and 2.6.38.8-35.fc15.i686.PAE) are not affected

Comment 8 Bert DeKnuydt 2011-08-25 19:30:02 UTC
I have exactly the same as comment#6, on a ECS 945GCD-3L/945GCD-3L, BIOS 080013 04/23/2009. Did not have this with the latest F14 kernels.

Snippet from dmesg:

if I understand OK, biosdevname force this errors and deleting this package is workaround...

Hi All,

Could you please test latest biosdevname version 0.3.11 from
http://linux.dell.com/biosdevname/biosdevname-0.3.11/ and let us know if it addresses the issue described in this bug. This release contains a VPD related fix.

Comment 12 Bert DeKnuydt 2011-10-03 18:32:35 UTC
Hi,

Sorry for the delay. For me, biosdevname-0.3.11-1 solves the problem completely.
I end up booting 61 seconds faster,

eth0 gets named p32p1.

Bert.
