Description jmlevick 2011-05-28 21:42:07 UTC
Description of problem:

Just a few days ago, I filed this Bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=708557

talking about my speakers-headphones issue, (Both play at the same time) That I use to solve using "pavucontrol" to select the desired output device from F12 to F14 (Now in F15 that "solution" doesn't work anymore) and more strange, Just Now I tried to use the Pulse Audio Volume Control again to select the output and if I select the speakers, both headphones and speakers sound BUT if I select Headphones BOTH devices "shut up" O.o ¿Why? I believe it's a pulseaduio issue...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

ALSA v 1.0.23 & pulseaudio 0.9.22-5

How reproducible:

Play some music in the PC having both speakers and headphones connected, in first place, headphones should be "muting" the speakers (wich they're not doing) and second, if I choose the headphones in the pavucontrol app, both devices shut up. Selecting speakers make both sound again.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Play some music in the PC
2. Plug in Headphones
3. Use "pavucontrol" to switch between Speakers and Headphones as output device.

Actual results:

First, headphones don't mute speakers, and whem you use something like "pavucontrol" to select manually an output device, selecting "headphones" make both outputs to "shut up" and selecting "speakers" make both play at the same time.

Expected results:

When connecting headphones, speakers should be muted. In case this fails, using pavucontrol should let the user to manually select one or other output device muting the second one, not "shut up" both with one option or "turn on" both with another.

Additional info:

The Sound card is a HDA INTEL with the Realtek ALC662 rev1 Chip; As I said in the previous filed bug, I'm using Fedora 15 KDE (64 Bit version) and I'm running ALSA v 1.0.23 with pulseaudio 0.9.22-5, The output of "lsmod | grep snd" is:

snd_usb_audio 98871 1
snd_usbmidi_lib 18066 1 snd_usb_audio
snd_rawmidi 20308 1 snd_usbmidi_lib
snd_hda_codec_realtek 325262 1
snd_hda_intel 23694 3
snd_hda_codec 80822 2 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep 6368 2 snd_usb_audio,snd_hda_codec
snd_seq 52438 0
snd_seq_device 6001 2 snd_rawmidi,snd_seq
snd_pcm 78484 4 snd_usb_audio,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
snd_timer 19593 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd 62686 18
snd_usb_audio,snd_usbmidi_lib,snd_rawmidi,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 6299 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 7431 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm

I've heard of other users having this particular problem with the headphones output and no one on the internet seem to have a solution,

Thanks.

Same solution from:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=708557

works in this one, the only change it's that, to avoid the outputs muting, we have to have selected "Analog Output" instead of "Speakers" or "Headphones" that way, both outputs work and also, when we plug in headphones, speakers mute correctly, if we unplug them, the speakers sound again.

Oh! I forgot, the "output selection" is made in "Pavucontrol" (Pulse Audio Volume Control)

C'ya!
