Description of problem: Using the default Fedora Firefox profile, drop down form menus in web pages do nothing. (At least under KDE). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Firefox 4.0.1 How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox under KDE, try to use a drop down form menu such as the one on the Fedora start page (such as language selection or license selection next to the search box. 2. Observe that the menu does not drop down. Expected results: Menus drop down as they would normally. Additional info: Entering about:config and toggling the preference ui.use_native_popup_windows boolean to false fixes the problem immediately.
Looks like a KDE problem when firefox can't run native widgets.
I can confirm this on f14 too using ff 3.6.24 (f16's ff no longer has this option, fwiw), guessing it may be related to oxygen-gtk in use. (I'll try testing other gtk widget/themes here in a bit).
switching to clearlooks didn't help. Starting to think kde is not relevant, I can reproduce the same badness on xfce too.
and tested gnome (f14), fails there too.
This bug is against F15 (Firefox 8.0 recently), not F14. It works fine on F15/Gnome3. So please retest on KDE/F15.
I'm going to hope and assume that you tested firefox/gnome (on f15) successfully.
Yes, I have F15/Gnome3 on my production box right now.
Closing. Firefox upstream has removed the preference that was causing this problem, and Fedora is no longer shipping a version that exhibits the behavior or that preference.
