Was Thunar updated in the updates you did? How about gvfs-smb? (You can check /var/log/yum.log) I'll look around and see if there is any known issues about this...
The following updates have been applied: Jun 10 18:19:42 Updated: Thunar-1.2.2-1.fc15.x86_64 Jun 10 18:17:32 Updated: gvfs-1.8.2-1.fc15.x86_64 Jun 10 18:19:31 Updated: gvfs-obexftp-1.8.2-1.fc15.x86_64 The following was installed: Jun 10 18:34:36 Installed: gvfs-smb-1.8.2-1.fc15.x86_64 - On it's own prior to applying any updates this is still working on a USB Live image with firewall set correctly.
ok, if you 'yum downgrade Thunar' does it start working again? I'm not seeing any other reports of this... and I did see someone who had the updated one work as expected (I have 0 smb shares here to test against).
It's confirmed Thunar is causing this problem. yum downgrade Thunar Removed: Thunar.x86_64 0:1.2.2-1.fc15 Installed: Thunar.x86_64 0:1.2.1-5.fc15 After rebooting, logging in to XFCE, going to Network and navigating to share results in the logon window showing for password protected shares. So things work as expected.
Oh forgot to add the issue occurs on both x86 and x86_64 releases so something that has changed in Thunar 1.2.2-1.fc15 is likely causing the problem.
Can you update to the new one again, then run 'Thunar' from a terminal and see if it produces any errors or output when you try and use the gvfs menu?
When Thunar is started from a user's terminal there is not additional output as such, you see the following: [user@computer ~]$ thunar [user@computer ~]$ Is there a way of doing a verbose start?
Nope, there isn't any kind of verbose or debug flag. ok, next thing to try (and thank you for helping here to track this down): Can you make a new fresh user account, login as them and see if it works there? This will tell us if it's a local user setting somehow, or if the issue is system wide.
Nope creating a new user account does not help. The same issue also occurs when using a Live USB stick after applying the same updates too.
Has no one else reported this issue as it is on-going?
I received one report in the German Fedora forum, see http://www.fedoraforum.de/viewtopic.php?t=21424
ok, one change I see upstream in 1.2.2 is that they changed it so it does not load the network menu on startup, but only later on idle. So, can someone seeing this: - Update back to 1.2.2 - (re)Start Thunar - Wait a few minutes and see if the menu shows up
The Network shortcut / menu is showing up instantly. I can go to Network > [Storage Server] > see folders > click a folder and I get the box as shown in attachment. Can you provide the upstream info in a link? This may help clarify things...
ok, I misunderstood when the failure happened. I am going to file this upstream...
Can you provide the link for the upstream bug report?
See the "external trackers" link above? :) http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7774
Sorry not had a Bugzilla bug get moved up stream before so did not see that :-(
Wow doesn't seem this is going anywhere up stream too :-(
Great news! Axel Sommerfeldt has identified the problem, and proposed a fix (as a patch) that works with Fedora 15. Can we get that patch into the Fedora repository?
Yep. I already had that on my todo list today. ;)
Thunar-1.2.2-2.fc15 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 15. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/Thunar-1.2.2-2.fc15
Package Thunar-1.2.2-2.fc15: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 15 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days. Update it with: # su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing Thunar-1.2.2-2.fc15' as soon as you are able to. Please go to the following url: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/Thunar-1.2.2-2.fc15 then log in and leave karma (feedback).
SUCCESS! I just got back from a trip and immediately tried "Thunar-1.2.2-2.fc15" per comment 22. It works, beautifully. The "bookmarks" now shows my SMB shares, which I can select, enter passwords, and access. The URL locations look right, they have the usual format smb://[[domain;]username[:password]@]server[/share[/path]] Thanks so much! I look forward to seeing this in the regular repository. I will nag upstream to get it in their main lines, so that this patch can eventually disappear.
I doubt that it would be a good idea to put this patch of mine in the regular repository since I'm not a member of the XFCE team. So I think this patch should be approved by a XFCE team member first.
Thunar-1.2.2-2.fc15 has been pushed to the Fedora 15 stable repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report.
