Description Laurent Aguerreche 2011-06-10 17:58:03 UTC
Description of problem:
Since version xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.15.0-3.fc15, I encounter flickering with big black squares in GTK windows when moving them. Evolution shows this problem very well.

I have to downgrade to xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.14.0-6.fc15.x86_64.rpm to see all artifacts disappear.

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.15.0-3.fc15
2. After having reboot the computer, move GTK windows and see the result.

Additional info:

My computer is a DELL XPS 502x. CPU: Intel SandyBridge i7-2720QM. It also has a Nvidia GPU (supposed to use Optimus): GeForce GT 540M.

I reported this bug in #697196 but nobody seemed to care about it.

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please add drm.debug=0x04 to the kernel command line, restart computer, and attach

* your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available),
* X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log)
* output of the dmesg command, and
* system log (/var/log/messages)

to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link above.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

I also see a similar issue with a Dell Latitude E6320 (Intel Core i5-2540M w/ HD Graphics 3000). It really does look terrible when moving any GTK window around. I get a blocky, tearing/rolling shutter type effect, especially noticeable when moving a window horizontally. I'll try to capture a screenshot of it happening.

Versions of possibly relevant packages:

kernel 2.6.40.4-5.fc15
xorg-x11-server-Xorg 1.10.4-1.fc15
xorg-x11-drv-intel 2.15.0-5.fc15
mesa-* 7.11-1.fc15
libdrm 2.4.26-1.fc15
libva 1.0.14-1.fc15

I notice that the versions for all of these packages match those in the Intel 2011Q3 package (http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2011Q3.html) with the exception of the 2D driver (xorg-x11-drv-intel a.k.a. xf86-video-intel), the Fedora 15 version is one version out of date (2.15 versus 2.16). The notes on Intel 2011Q3 include "further stability/performance improvements for the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family (codenamed Sandy Bridge, for Intel 2011 platforms)" so it is possible that this bug is already fixed in 2.16 and we just need the Fedora 15 package to be updated to the current version.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 14:43:25 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
