I've been having problems getting my CD-Recorder to work under RH 6.1 It was fine under 6.0. I contacted the authors of the software that I use (cdrecord & xcdroast) and they said that it looks like a bug in the kernel scsi code. I include below both e-mails with the details of the problem. Perhaps see if there are any compile-options for the scsi-driver and tweak there a little. No idea otherwise. Many things were fixed in both the scsi burners and kernel (and stuff like workarounds for bad drives). In the absence of more info I plan to close this bug. If it still happens after all this time - reopen it and let me know
Bug 7125 has been closed due to Red Hat Linux 6.0/6.1 is no longer supported by Red Hat. This bug looks to have been fixed in the current Red Hat Linux (I cant duplicate it in 7.3 with similar hardware.)
