(In reply to comment #6) > When crash mouse, keyboard, anything don't work... -> reboot manually. Doesn't work ... does it mean that mouse doesn't move, and pressing any key on keyboard (e.g., Ctrl-Alt-F2) doesn't make action even when you wait a minute or so? Also if you run top command in gnome-terminal when this happens, does it freeze, or do you see some application to get really high on CPU or memory consumption? What is the load average (on the right top of top screen)? > JS ERROR: !!! WARNING: 'assignment to undeclared variable app' > JS ERROR: !!! hi! Sorry for my english.. >Doesn't work ... does it mean that mouse doesn't move, and pressing any key on >keyboard (e.g., Ctrl-Alt-F2) doesn't make action even when you wait a minute or >so? Also if you run top command in gnome-terminal when this happens, does it >freeze, or do you see some application to get really high on CPU or memory >consumption? What is the load average (on the right top of top screen)? I can do anything, even Ctrl-Alt-F2 does not work. I waited one hour .. I do not know the load average. >Certainly Xorg shouldn't crash whatever gnome-shell does, but could you please >uninstall these gnome-shell extensions? It is obviously buggy. I reinstalled Fedora 15 and completely update and install any extensions .. same thing it crashes. >Also, could we get COMPLETE ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/messages from time >when this error happens, please? I uninstalled Fedora 15 and installed Fedora 14 .. sorry. Thank you!

Here are the full logs after reboot manually.

That is not supported. Please, don't do it. Run Gnome as normal user and then use sudo in gnome-terminal for root-related activities.

I was discussing with DieOrLivE on IRC, and it appears that I got similar issues. When crashing, I can access the computer via SSH, and see that gnome-shell process consumes about 90 to 100% of the CPU. Sometimes, killing that process make g-s to restart ; but sometimes that does not solve the problem (process does not restart, or restart and eats all cpu again after a few seconds). Here are installed packages: % rpm -qa gnome-shell\* gnome-shell-extensions-drive-menu-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch gnome-shell-extensions-windowsNavigator-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-status-menu-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch gnome-shell-3.0.2-4.fc15.x86_64 gnome-shell-extensions-auto-move-windows-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch gnome-shell-extensions-common-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch I do not have any other extensions installed, and use 'gs-orta' theme installed in my user home. I have a nvidia card using nouveau driver. Hope that could help.
I use de gnome-shell theme atolm, in my user home too.
Similar issues for me too. When playing a video (fullscreen or not) with mplayer or vlc sometimes screen freeze. $ lspci VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood PRO [Radeon HD 5500 Series] with radeon driver (xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.14.1-2.20110525gitfe5c42f51.fc15.x86_64) $ rpm -qa *mesa* mesa-libGLU-7.11-1.fc15.x86_64 mesa-libGL-7.11-1.fc15.x86_64 mesa-dri-llvmcore-7.11-0.9.20110509.0.fc15.x86_64 mesa-dri-drivers-7.11-1.fc15.x86_64 mesa-dri-filesystem-7.11-1.fc15.x86_64 $ rpm -qa gnome-shell* gnome-shell-extensions-auto-move-windows-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch gnome-shell-extension-remove-accessibility-icon-20110603-1.fc15.noarch gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-status-menu-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch gnome-shell-3.0.2-4.fc15.x86_64 gnome-shell-extensions-common-3.0.2-1.g63dd27cgit.fc15.noarch Using default Gnome-Shell theme and kernel 2.6.40.3-0.fc15.x86_64. When crashing two options : 1. I can't do nothing, just hard reboot. 2. All freeze, but after few seconds sound play again so I can move the mouse and I can access tty2 with Ctrl+Alt+F2 and with my user starting top command. gnome-shell process consumes between 90% and 100% of CPU. If I kill gnome-session process I can access GDM to an other tty and access new session (GDM shows that I'm still login, just have to type my password). Can't remember if gnome-shell process was present, next time I'll confirm. But when Gnome-Shell desktop restart gnome-shell process consumes all cpu again. I can play again a video but Gnome-Shell freeze again after few minutes or hours (only if I'm playing a video). .xsession-errors show nothing special and /var/log/messages too.
New freeze. This time it was possible to access tty2, gnome-shell was consumed between 90% and 100% of CPU. After killing gnome-shell process (I confirm it was present) I was able to acces again my desktop under tty1 with all applications before freeze except the player that I killed before gnome-shell process. After gnome-shell process consumes only 2% of CPU. Always same problem nothing special in logs.

I cannot use Ctrl+Alt+F2 to exit out of the crashed gnome-shell into a safe command line environment, unfortunately. I do not have SSH running.
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
