Description of problem: When I use the version 6.14.1 (the latest one) of ATI Radeon open source driver, my video card hits 80-85° C while doing nothing special (only gnome shell session open). In some cases it stopped my battery from charging for the extreme overheating. My video card is a Radeon HD 4200, as reported by lspci: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility Radeon HD 4200] I'm sure it's the ATI driver because if I switch to Catalyst (closed source) drivers it works well and the temp is between 45° and 55°. Unfortunately, using the Catalyst drivers causes this bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=710258 so I'm stuck with GNOME3 fallback mode. How reproducible: - Use F15 with xorg-x11-drv-ati and a Radeon HD 4200 Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use F15 with xorg-x11-drv-ati and a Radeon HD 4200 2. Check the temp of video card using lm_sensors Actual results: Overheating Expected results: A normal temperature Additional info: Feel free to ask me additional info if required.
