Description of problem: When i plugged my printer OKI B410D the first time into my USB Fedora configured it using the default driver of OKI (Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e) and I want to print something (Testpage or something else doesn't matter) nothing happens. Switching to the Generic/Generic PCL 5e LF Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 Simplified (en) driver and everything works fine. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. Remove printer if already configured 2. Plug the printer into the USB port 3. Wait until it is configured 4. Try to print a page 5. Go to http://127.0.0.1:631/printers and switch to the Generic/Generic PCL 5e LF Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 Simplified (en) driver 6. Try again to print a page Actual results: Doesn't print choosing the default driver Expected results: Plug the usb cable to the USB, wait for configuring and after that start printing without need of changing the driver first. Additional info:
Is any other foomatic driver for OKI B410 working (I see there's also lj4dith, ljet4, ljet4d, pxlmono) ? Can you also attach an output from printing troubleshooter when using the default Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e driver ? https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Printing/Debugging#Printing_troubleshooter thanks
Ok the problem was a missing driver (hpijs). After installation the printer is working with the driver Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e
Daniel: the printer driver should be installed automatically, and in your case it wasn't. Please provide the printing troubleshooter output so that we can fix that.
Created attachment 517063 [details] Troubleshoot as wished Hello, as you wished here the troubleshoot file. Hope you can find the reason why the driver isn't installed when adding the printer the first time.
Thanks. Could I also please ask you to run this command (with the printer switched on) and show me the output? su -c 'lpinfo -l -v' Thanks.

Relevant part (in case the pastebin disappears): Device: uri = usb://OKI%20DATA%20CORP/B410 class = direct info = OKI DATA CORP B410 make-and-model = OKI DATA CORP B410 device-id = MANUFACTURER:OKI DATA CORP;COMMAND SET:PJL,PCL,IBMPPR,EPSONFX,PCLXL;MODEL:B410;CLASS:PRINTER;DESCRIPTION:OKI B410; location =
The situation is that foomatic-db already has the correct Device ID tagged. As it is a generic driver, it doesn't make sense for that driver (hpijs) to be tagged with that make and model specifically. The fix will be for GNOME control-center to inspect the PPD file to find out that more packages need to be installed, and to install them.
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
