RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Lubos Kocman 2011-08-08 12:33:47 UTC
Created attachment 517198 [details]
Xorg.0.log

Description of problem:

changing resolution sets minimal brightness on the laptop display (external monitor is always fine).

I've also found out that enabling disabling external displays leads to same result (minimal brightness on the laptop display)

Workaround: return back brightness after any resolution manipulation by using hardware keys or other ...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.15.0-2.el6.x86_64
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.10.3-3.el6.x86_64
xorg-x11-server-utils-7.5-5.1.el6.x86_64
kernel-2.6.32-178.el6.x86_64

How reproducible:

obtain t400 with mentioned versions of software

Steps to Reproduce:
1. switch resolution or enable / disable external display

Actual results:

minimal brightness on the laptop display (if any)

Expected results:

brightness should stay on the same level as before changing resolution

Additional info:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

not sure if there is anything useful

Move to 6.2.

Comment 4 Adam Jackson 2011-08-18 18:49:23 UTC
I can reproduce this on a T400, but not on a T500. Curious.

Comment 5 Adam Jackson 2011-08-18 18:54:32 UTC
Actually, I only tested the T500 with an external display attached, and in that configuration the T400 behaves sanely as well. Seems to only happen with only the LVDS lit.

Comment 7 Adam Jackson 2011-09-23 17:35:27 UTC
I'm no longer able to reproduce this with kernel-2.6.32-202. Reporter?

Comment 8 Lubos Kocman 2011-09-29 10:36:29 UTC
Hello Adam, I can't use newer kernel as Bug 741192 is blocking me. If you were able to reproduce this issue before and now it's fine then it's probably CURRENT RELEASE.

I'll reopen bug in case that I'll hit this problem again on newer kernel.

Comment 9 Jiri Koten 2011-10-03 16:25:10 UTC
I was able to reproduce the problem on my T500 - happened only to laptop lid.
I can confirm it's fixed in xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.16.0-1.el6 and kernel-2.6.32-202.el6.
