Description Håkon Løvdal 2011-09-03 00:33:22 UTC
Created attachment 521303 [details]
strace -s 9000 -o gvfs-mount.-l.strace gvfs-mount -l

Description of problem:

Currently evince (and other programs) hangs because it tries to connect gvfs mounttracker which does not reply. See the attached strace output from running "gvfs-mount -l" which fails in the same way.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

gvfs-1.8.2-1.fc15.x86_64
gvfs-afc-1.8.2-1.fc15.x86_64
gvfs-fuse-1.8.2-1.fc15.x86_64
gvfs-gphoto2-1.8.2-1.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:

First time. I have not rebooted.

Additional info:

$ pstree -p | grep  gvfs
           |-gvfs-afc-volume(8053)---{gvfs-afc-volum}(8058)
           |-gvfs-fuse-daemo(1968)-+-{gvfs-fuse-daem}(1969)
           | |-{gvfs-fuse-daem}(1970)
           | `-{gvfs-fuse-daem}(1971)
           |-gvfs-gdu-volume(7462)
           |-gvfs-gphoto2-vo(7810)
           |-gvfsd(1959)
           |-gvfsd-burn(17303)
           |-gvfsd-metadata(28301)
           |-gvfsd-trash(14837)
$

The tail of the strace output shows where it hangs:

Apparently the hang was not hard, in that at least eeshecma (from kicad) was hanging on "add library", but after a long time when returning to this application it had continued to show a dialouge box like expected.

And also there might have been other things going on, at reboot I got a report of a kernel BUG in mm/mmap,c related to process gvfsd, see attached photo (are there any tools that are able to convert this to text?).

Looks to me like a kernel/libc/selinux issue or a combination. Can you try different kernel or/and try booting with selinux=0 ?

Strace output wouldn't tell me much, gdb backtrace at the moment of freeze would be definitely better.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 18:51:51 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
