Description of problem:
Totem crashes/segfaults when I try to start it on my Fedora-16
alpha box with the latest updates.  If I run it in gdb, it says:

(totem:3295): Clustter-CRITICAL **: Unable to initialize Clutter: The OpenGL version could not be determined".
I've got a Nvidia GeForce GT430 card with the nouveau driver.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 16 alpha with latest yum updates

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. /usr/bin/totem
  
Actual results:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Expected results:
Oh, it'd be nice if totem would actually start.

Are you running in fallback mode? What does glxinfo say?

More likely in clutter than in totem.  Actually most likely in Mesa, but let's start with clutter.

What versions of mesa-libGL, mesa-dri-drivers, and clutter do you have installed?

Well here's your problem.  I'm going to bet you still have remnants of nvidia's driver installed, and it's preventing X from setting up GLX correctly.  Please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log so we can see what's going wrong.

Here's my current Xorg.0.log. 

A bit of history:

When I first installed this system to F16 alpha (several
weeks ago when it first came out), totem worked for a very
short time using the cheap on-board IBM graphics, but the
graphics was horrible. Then I bought an Nvidia graphics
card and totem didn't work at all, although nouveau seemed
to work for everything else graphical.

So I decided to see if it would work on the proprietary
nvidia driver. I started to install the driver, but I ran
into issues installing it. The issues seemed related to the
fact that F16 was still in alpha at the time. (I was trying
to run their install script but ran into dependency problems.

I tried a few things to resolve it, but finally gave up on
the idea of installing it and decided to just use the
nouveau driver. I had assumed the failed nvidia installer
had left things in a sane state, especially since the rest
of my nouveau graphics seemed to work, including a different
video player.

You're still running against nvidia's libGL, even though you fixed the client side.  IIRC that's found with an extra file in /etc/ld.so.conf.d pointing to /usr/lib/nvidia or something like that.  Delete that and nouveau might even give you working 3d.

But then:

Implies that the X server didn't set up accelerated 3d for you; again the X log would probably have some clues as to why.

Yes, it now works properly. However, I still insist that
segfaulting is not cool, regardless of whether or not it's
able to initialize clutter, or why. The fact that it segfaults
is, IMHO, a bug, so I'd expect to see this closed WONTFIX
if you choose not to fix it.

I'd prefer to see some message saying something like "Totem
failed: unable to initialize clutter." It'd be nice if it
said something about what logs to check to uncover why it
couldn't initialize clutter or where to begin looking.
Most people who will encounter this segfault don't even know
what clutter is, let alone where to begin looking for problems.
