Description of problem:
I downloaded the Fedora 16 install/upgrade dvd and copied it to an usbstick with the livecd-iso-to-disk tool and tried to upgrade my system. but anaconda fails with the error "UnicodeEncodeError character u'\xfc'" in the program gettext.py

this is maybe the same error as described in the Common F16 bugs document. See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731356 . Sorry for the noise. after the removing the LANG= from the extlinux command lines, the installation did finish correctly. but there seems to be a problem with the graphical installer when using a dual screen setup. shall I create a new bug for this problem?

You are right, this log line confirms it:

19:38:33,304 ERR loader: unable to set to requested language de_DE.utf8

For the dual screen problem see bug 725219.
