Description of problem:

This morning I tried updating an old F12 system to the F16 beta from the DVD.

The installer did not seem to detect the previous release - at no point did it ask whether I wanted to upgrade. Perhaps it's not checking that far back?

The system in question is a Dell Precision 690, with a SAS5 controller and an AHCI controller.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 16 beta

How reproducible:

We do not support upgrades from that far back which is why we did not offer you an upgrade choice for that installation. If you want to give it a try, you can pass the "upgradeany" parameter, but there's no guarantees.

Comment 5 Adam Huffman 2011-10-12 09:19:00 UTC
I upgraded to F14 and then tried again with the F16 Beta DVD. The result was the same - it didn't seem to detect the existing installation and didn't offer the upgrade option.

If you want me to send the logfiles from this new attempt, let me know.

Yes, logs are always helpful.

Comment 7 Adam Huffman 2012-02-19 11:45:13 UTC
I think this was caused by the known problem with separate /var partitions. I don't have access to this system any more, in any case.
