If you try to install Linux on a multipartitioned machine, you encounter a nasty bug when the time comes to install LILO. Even if you don't actually have a bootable O/S on the other partition, the LILO setup will try to set it as a boot option--and you can't install LILO until you remove that non-bootable partition as a boot option.
We are now checking for valid bootsectors on the partitions listed in lilo config, so this is no longer a problem.
