Description of problem:
I was booting my lenovo ideapad s12. it appeared to stop booting with the fedora logo half displayed for a few minutes. I pressed shift and it carried on.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
clean install of fedora 16

How reproducible:
happened once, i have rebooted around 10 times without it happening.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot

Actual results:
boot hangs

Expected results:
boot to login screen

Additional info:
in the past I have used the boot flag, "nolapic_timer" to prevent issues of hanging until there is keyboard interaction. but I was not currently using it.

Comment 1 Josh Boyer 2012-02-29 17:57:38 UTC
I believe there were some fixes upstream in the 3.2 or 3.3 kernel for an issue similar to this. Do you have this problem with the 3.2.7 or newer kernels?

Comment 5 Sam Tygier 2012-03-22 18:25:33 UTC
i have removed nolapic_timer from my boot options, and with the 3.2.10 kernel it seems to not hang any more. I'll close this for now, and hope that it does not show up again. thanks

sorry. this is still happening, now with 3.3.4-3.fc17.i686 in fedora 17.

# Mass update to all open bugs.

Kernel 3.6.2-1.fc16 has just been pushed to updates.
This update is a significant rebase from the previous version.

Please retest with this kernel, and let us know if your problem has been fixed.

In the event that you have upgraded to a newer release and the bug you reported
is still present, please change the version field to the newest release you have
encountered the issue with. Before doing so, please ensure you are testing the
latest kernel update in that release and attach any new and relevant information
you may have gathered.

If you are not the original bug reporter and you still experience this bug,
please file a new report, as it is possible that you may be seeing a
different problem.
