Description of problem:

terrible characters at login and using Gnome
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):


How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.boot
2.login to Gnome
3.
  
Actual results:
menu are hardly seen, mix of characters and squares

Expected results:
they should be o.k. as  in F15

Additional info:

using Nvidia card: menu in KDE are o.k.

Thanks for the bug report.  We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please add drm.debug=0x04 to the kernel command line, restart computer, and attach

* your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available),
* X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log)
* output of the dmesg command
* system log (/var/log/messages)
* A screenshot of the problem

to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link above.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

installed kernel-3.1.4-1.fc16.i686.PAE

No improvement since my filing this bug, and no triaging apparently

Looks like 745202: it seems like lots of people report corruption in Shell with FX 5xxx era hardware.

Sorry about triaging slowing down lately, mcepl and I both have other duties now and don't have a lot of time for X triaging any more :(
