Description of problem: My new HP G4-1215DX fails to do KMS during the F16 install. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): F16 x86_64 install DVD. How reproducible: Attempt regular install. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Buy HP G4-1215DX. 2. Get F16 install media. 3. Attempt install. Actual results: Black screen of nothingness. Expected results: KMS (& anaconda). Additional info: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41569 This bug is primarily to ensure that the 2nd patch (now in linus' tree: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=cf2aff6eff251b6fbdaf8c253e65ff7c693de8cd) either hits stable or is carried in Fedora until it does.
I built a f16 install dvd with a patched kernel (the 2nd patch in the fdo bugzilla and two other patches it depends on) and I now have KMS. upstream: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=b4f15f808b9a79b6ad9032fa5f6d8b88e1e1bf11 http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=1d33e1fc8dcce667a70387b666a8b6f60153d90f http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=cf2aff6eff251b6fbdaf8c253e65ff7c693de8cd According to the FDO bug, this will likely affect (many? some?) AMD-based laptops. It would be nice to have this mentioned in the Fedora Common Bugs.
Dave, if the patches from comment #1 are something that should get brought in, let us know.
These patches seem to be included in 3.1.6 as per http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/linux-3.1.y .
This has been fixed for a while. Closing.
