Description of problem:

When trying to set up an account on a IMAP server running dovecot,
akonadi complains:

The server refused the supplied username and password. Do you want to go to
settings, have another attempt at logging in, or do nothing?

Well, it connects, so that's good. However I am not sure what akonad guys are smoking :( I am dont syncing the account (took ages) and long after the process was completed I am still seeing:

Sorry about my rant regarding akonadi and thank you very much for providing me with a test build. The originally reported bug seems to be fixed as I can connect to the dovecot server. Please consider pushing it into updates repository.

Mysqld/akonadi seem to settle down, although they still cause my CPU to wake up at a rate of 17 to 40 wakeups per second and keep my laptop quite warm (I opened a separate bug 757416 for that). I am also not quite sure why I need 0.5G local database for my email; there is a reason I use a separate box as a mail server and access it over IMAP.

There ia a patch taken from http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249992 and added by Rex Dieter to kdepimlibs package (version 4.7.3-2) on 2011-11-26 which should fix the bug, but it actually does not. It allows LOGIN authentication, but other authentication mechs still fail, just with a different error: "Login failed, authentication mode %1 is not supported by the server." (where "%1" is replaced with authentication mech name). Accidentally, there is no error when using unencrypted IMAP connection.

The fix was pushed today to master and KDE/4.8 branches.

KDE in Fedora is based on KDE 4.7.4, so please take the diff from the code review above and use it to replace the faulty "kdepimlibs-4.7.3-dovecot_kde249992.patch" patch file.

Does it mean that I won't need to wait for Fedora 17 release to have KDE 4.8? That's great news!

Please don't push KDE 4.8 until the next bugfix release, otherwise you'll need to include a patch for this bug to build kdepimlibs package. :-)

Actually, this bug was fixed in kdepimlibs-4.8.1-1.fc16, not in akonadi-1.7.1-1.fc16.

I'll change it to be pedantic, the automatic system simply uses the first item in the update list I think.
