All development on Nexuiz has stopped; the rights the the name and a proprietary license to the code were sold to a commercial company. Development continues in the form of a fork called Xonotic (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/). I guess there are two problems with including it in Fedora at this point: 1.) The current version 0.5 is possibly not stable enough. 2.) Xonotic uses a newer version of the Darkplaces engine than Nexuiz, so including Xonotic w/ the right dependencies might require getting rid of Nexuiz No, I have no ability nor experience maintaining packages myself, and there's nobody that works on Xonotic that is a Fedora team member (I asked).
Sorry, the URL is: http://www.xonotic.org/ But I'm sure this is old news.
Yeah, I've been putting this off. I'll start work on it. Thanks!
Hello, I just want to refresh this request with information that Xonotic 0.6 has been released. Cheers :)
Good to know, thanks! 0.5.0 wasn't working for me, I'll see if this is better. Could be my hardware. :)
0.6.0 seems better, but I can't really see. I can post builds for people to test, so it can be working prior to submitting it for review. What releases and arches do you want?
Myself I'm on F14 so please post srpms if you're interesting if they would rebuild :) PS. Remember Xonotic requires at least current Darkplaces from div0-stable branch if you're going to use system-wide version instead of bundled fork.
Ugh, I forgot that darkplaces was bundled. I really will need to split that out and have multiple reviews. To be continued.
Still working on this, and I now have a machine that can run nexuiz satisfactorily, so this may move faster now. :)
I have a package nearly ready, and it plays. . .but I'm not sure it's ready. Have any of you run into problems where you spawn in odd places? Like halfway in a desk, or outside, falling through space?
the 0.6 version of xonotic i rather stable actually. Spawning in desks or outside of map never occurred to me on default xonotic servers. However there are some servers running spawning mods (like spawn near to team mates). But vanilla xonotic should be fine and more stable than nexuiz. Regards and looking forward to see xonotic in the Fedora repositories and thanks a lot for the work on it, Erik Schilling (Ablu)
My testing wasn't on a remote server, it was on a local game.
I never heard about this kind of issues (though i myself only work with git servers). I will try testing with exact 0.6. Could you maybe share your packages so i can test with them?
Sure, what Fedora release and arch do you need?
Nevermind, I rebuild and tested on f18 and it's fine. I'll start a rename review.
Thanks a lot for all the work on it from the Xonotic community! Have a nice weekend! Erik
Xonotic is not in F18 repos. Explanation?
The rename review isn't finished yet. I've got feedback from others, but I've not had time to implement it. I'll try to get to it this week or next.
