Description Lukas Zapletal 2011-12-07 08:59:32 UTC
Hello,

latest update of gtk2 broke vte-based terminals like Terminator, Terminal etc.

Since commit ac943bf69a87c992cfde59c6720ef08fdd20e683 [1] to gtk+ I cannot use
Alt+key combinations anymore.

There is a patch that partially fixes this: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663779 (comment 13).

I am not sure if it broke more apps, most likely it did.

Falling back to xterm or gnome-terminal for a while.

I've noticed the same [or similar?] breakage with gnome-terminal - with a recent update on F16 [x86_64]. i.e In gnome-terminal 'Alt-d' - for delete word does not work.

However downgrading gkt2 didn't help. Downgrading gtk3 however fixes this problem for me.

yum downgrade gtk3 gtk3-immodule-xim

i.e
working gtk3-3.2.1-1.fc16
broken gtk3-3.2.2-2.fc16

re-entered my issue at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=766918 - as that one is more appropriate

This is really now best listed as a duplicate of bug #766918 as the update pending in updates-testing:

 https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2011-17004/vte3-0.30.1-3.fc16

fixes this.

Ooops, seems that the vte3 update only fixed gtk3-based apps, not the gtk2-based apps (just tried "terminator" and problem is still there after vte3 update). Re-opening bug. Sorry about that.

Comment 6 Lukas Zapletal 2012-01-02 08:19:01 UTC
After the update in stable I dont see the problem anymore in my Terminator. I am not sure if gtk2 apps have this problem... closing.
