On a default CentOS 5.5 installation, I download the Gluster RPMs and install them. I then try to mount my volume. The mount command does not product an error: mount -t glusterfs jacobgfs31:/distribute /mnt But the volume is not mounted. My gluster logs are full of: [root@jacob-centos-client glusterfs]# cat mnt.log [2010-10-21 09:49:41.846836] E [mount.c:526:fuse_mount_sys] glusterfs-fuse: cann ot open /dev/fuse (No such file or directory) If I then install the fuse.x86_64 package then my mount works. We should either be displaying an error when the mount fails to happen, or we should be checking to make sure the fuse package is installed as a dependency check to the Gluster fuse package.
PATCH: http://patches.gluster.com/patch/5622 in master (Throwing an error while mounting glusterfs when fuse is not installed.)
