Description of problem: For the "logger" utility, the "-n"/"--server" option doesn't work, due to a bug which has been fixed upstream. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): util-linux-2.20.1-2.1.fc16.src.rpm How reproducible: Every time. Steps to Reproduce: logger -n test some_remote_syslog_server Actual results: Notice that nothing shows up in the remote syslog server, even though it has been configured to receive remote syslog messages. Notice also that no packets relating to port 514 are seen if wireshark is running. Expected results: A message should show up on the remote syslog server, and at least one IP packet related to port 514 should be seen. Additional info: The bug has been fixed upstream: https://github.com/karelzak/util-linux/commit/86248cd28a27bdd9a437e389966b0415e106802e I suggest that the fix be included in Fedora's util-linux package.
