Description Len DiMaggio 2008-10-16 16:37:42 UTC
Affects: Documentation (Ref Guide, User Guide, etc.)
project_key: SOA

Reference: http://jira.rhq-project.org/browse/RHQ-963

In SOA-P 4.3 IR5, the average values displayed were affected by RHQ-963. The averages were changed from trends up to dynamic. This solved the problem of negative values being displayed, but resulted in inaccurate averages. The average type should be changed to permanent.

The problem with negative averages described in RHQ-963 will still be an issue as if a negative value (resulting from a negative value obtained from any collection cycle included in the calculation) is included in the set of values used to calculate an average, the resulting value will be inaccurate and may even be negative.

The only workaround for a user once a negative average value has been generated is to un-inventory and then re-discover the affected service. The down side of this workaround is that all metric data and operation history etc. for the service will be lost.
