Description of problem: In various contexts (see below) I see an error saying that an additional plugin is required. It then specifies: "The following plugin is required: Gstreamer element uridecodebin Do you want to search for this now?" If I click the "Search" button, PackageKit tries to find it (doing a provides) but fails "Failed to search for plugin Could not find plugin in any configured software source" Gstreamer element uricodebin is actually present (provided by gstreamer-plugins-base and installed at /usr/lib64/gstreamer-0.10/libgstdecodebin2.so), so there is no need to install it. I've tried installing codecs by hand, but still can't get the DVD to play. Third-party repositories are enabled. I get this error when ever I try to play a DVD with (for instance) DragonPlayer. I also see this error when I try to restart from the graphical menu on the KDE desktop, although I don't understand why. I also get the error sometimes when I'm clicking through directories in Krusader. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gstreamer-0.10.35-1.fc16.x86_64 gstreamer-0.10.35-1.fc16.i686 How reproducible: Every time I try to play a DVD with DragonPlayer and every time I try to restart from KDE's graphical menu. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Insert DVD 2. When prompted, choose "Play DVD with DragonPlayer". 3. Click "play disk" if the error message doesn't show first. Actual results: I see an error saying that an additional plugin is required. It then specifies: "The following plugin is required: Gstreamer element uridecodebin Do you want to search for this now?" If I click the "Search" button, PackageKit tries to find it (doing a provides) but fails "Failed to search for plugin Could not find plugin in any configured software source" Expected results: If there are necessary codecs, PackageKit should find them and install them and the DVD should start. Additional info: This can also be reproduced by right-clicking on the KDE desktop and choosing "Restart". The only way I can restart the computer is to open up a terminal and enter "reboot".
FWIW, I ran into something like this and was able to fix it by removing ~/.gstreamer-0.10.
Removing ~/.gstreamer-0.10, as suggested by Jonathan, completely resolved my issue. It did uncover a bug that causes the KDE window decorator to crash on logout, but that one has been described upstream (in KDE and/or compiz bugtrackers). Thanks, Jonathan! Donald
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '16'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
This fix worked for me updating from f16 to f18 when Rhythmbox or Clementine wouldn't play. Thanks for posting!
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
