Description Jan Synacek 2012-01-20 13:12:19 UTC
Description of problem:
Openssl contains makefile (/etc/pki/tls/certs/Makefile) but doesn't require make package. I tried to install openldap-servers and its post installation scripts run make from within /etc/pki/tls/certs.

I think openssl should require make, since it ships with a makefile, but there's no way to actually use it without explicitly installing make.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
openssl-1.0.0f-1.fc17.x86_64

How reproducible:
see below

Steps to Reproduce:
0. make sure openssl is installed (if not, install it)
1. # rpm -qf /etc/pki/tls/certs/Makefile
openssl-1.0.0f-1.fc17.x86_64
2. # cd /etc/pki/tls/certs/
3. # make
-bash: make: command not found

Actual results:
Makefile bundled with openssl is not usable without make

Expected results:
Makefile bundled with openssl is usable, because openssl requires make

Comment 1 Tomas Mraz 2012-01-20 14:49:07 UTC
I am really hesitant to add additional dependencies to the base openssl package. On the other hand you're right that the dependency for generating certificates is real.

Comment 2 Tomas Mraz 2012-01-20 14:50:17 UTC
I will probably split the openssl package into openssl-libs and openssl subpackages.

Comment 3 Tomas Mraz 2012-01-20 14:51:34 UTC
Although in your concrete case it will probably mean that the openldap-servers package will have to be modified as well to explicitly require the base openssl package.

Comment 4 Adam Williamson 2012-12-18 06:55:45 UTC
this fix pulled 'make' into the minimal install between f17 and f18.

Comment 5 Tomas Mraz 2012-12-18 07:43:04 UTC
Unfortunately that's the way it is. I suppose if authconfig is uninstalled the base openssl package is not required anymore (and thus also make) and openssl-libs is sufficient.

Comment 14 Fedora End Of Life 2018-02-20 15:37:28 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 28 development cycle.
Changing version to '28'.

Comment 15 Ben Cotton 2019-05-02 22:01:45 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 28 is nearing its end of life.
On 2019-May-28 Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for
Fedora 28. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases
that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as
EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '28'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 28 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 16 Ben Cotton 2019-05-28 19:41:53 UTC
Fedora 28 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-05-28. Fedora 28 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
