Created attachment 560203 [details] Patch for dnsmasq.spec to build package with dhcp_release. OpenStack Nova (component nova-network from package openstack-nova) use dnsmasq as DHCP server for VM instances. When VM have deleted Nova disassociated fixed IP of VM in database by timeout. This process can be forced and works when Nova used dhcp_release contribute tool of dnsmasq. Will be well to build dnsmasq with dhcp_release. See attached patch for version 2.52-1.fc12.
This probably makes sense. I had a look around for other tools to send arbitrary DHCPRELEASEs but couldn't see one. dhcp_release has been enabled with dnsmasq in ubuntu since oneiric (11.10).
Note this functionality was in diablo, so probably this change should be done in f16 and el6
