patch for mesa.spec to build everything that is needed for wayland (3.42 KB, patch)

Description Thorsten Leemhuis 2012-02-14 19:50:56 UTC
Description of problem:
wayland in Fedora is heavily outdated; the checkout used according from the spec file is 20101221. And it might not even build; see Bug 677346

Do you need help updating this package to a recent version? With the recently released version 0.85 and the rough roadmap to release 1.0 this year it might be nice to have a up2date wayland version in Fedora...

It's provenpackager+ and I'm not going to have a chance to look at it for a few weeks at least. Go wild.

Thx ajax. Looks like the task is much bigger than I thought :-))

I updated wayland master; see

http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/gitweb/?p=wayland.git;a=commitdiff;h=ea60c5f1c555244227e0c52f3fb2e50165ec9325

and yell at me if you see something you don't like. I haven't build it yet. That would break setups that have the current packages installed, as the reference compositor is now a separate project. But I guess we could simply ignore that, as I guess nobody will care anyway, as the current packages are quite old and outdated.

I'm working on a package for weston and hope to submit it for review over the next few days.

For weston to build I need changes to mesa.spec and at least a newer libxkbcommon snapshot; I will submit spec file patches for your review.

Find the diff in the attachment. I don't want to step on anybodies toes, so let me know how to move on with it.

In addition: let me know if you want me to submit this patch in a separate bug to make sure all the mesa owners are aware of it, as you and the others sooner or later might have to handle bugs that are a result from these changes.

Patch looks fine I think, but please reference this bz# in the changelog so we have a breadcrumb for why we changed it.

Sure, good idea.

I'd say I move on like this:

 * wayland is afaics not only outdated, but also broken (at least on my f17 machine it does not work). So nothing gets really worse by building a updated wayland package, so I'd say I go forward and build it for f17 and rawide

 * I afterwards commit and build the adjusted patch for mesa.spec for f17 and rawhide? Or do you want to handle that? Or only f18?

 * then I continue to work towards getting weston into the repo; that will take a few days (or some more), but then the groundwork is in the repos and available for reviewers, which makes reviewing easier

Yeah, if nobody can be using what's there then there's no harm in fixing it.

Go ahead and kick updates for F17 too. We're doing the standard "apply to master, fedpkg switch-branch f17, git merge master" thing for now, and I don't think we have any urgently pressing F17 mesa updates you'd be colliding with.

Thanks for taking this on!

Open source is great, because others stepped up and submitted weston after I stopped working further on this due to some unforeseen and bad happenings at work & in real life...
