Description morten 1999-01-12 14:16:01 UTC
I think that redhat linux should at least let it be an
option to have Backspace and Delete keys work like most
people are used to, i.e. that Backspace removes the previous
character and Delete removes the next. Most people don't
want to mess around with all sorts of things like xmodmap,
.inputrc etc. to get it working. As if that wasn't enough,
no-latin1 keymap has a bug where the delete key exhibits a
Backspace keycode. Change "keycode 111 = Delete" to "keycode
111 = Remove" like the us keymap has.

I have used Slackware for years and was a bit disappointed
to have to go through the same process to get this working
ok. I also miss the console fonts slackware has, esp. the
iso-latin1 fonts as the default font (presumably the hw one)
doesn't display the special norwegian characters (aelig,
aring and oslash) correctly.

Automatically mapping Home/End keys for bash and less
wouldn't hurt either. Neither would a decent LESSPIPE filter
(like Slackware has).

Morten Knudsen.

Thank you for the suggestion. They have been noted and will be
considered for upcoming Red Hat releases.
