From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 Galeon/1.2.6 (X11; Linux i686; U;) Gecko/20021202 Description of problem: I'm running mostly Red Hat 8.0, but with a slightly modified and rebuilt kernel 2.4.20-0.pp.7 from Rawhide (to get the XFree 4.3 DRM stuff) and XFree86-4.2.99.2-0.20021217.0 rebuilt under this kernel from mharris' src.rpm. I've also seen similar problems with previous 4.2.99 CVS snapshots of XFree. I'm trying to eliminate various system hangs and application crashes experienced when running 4.2.0 (as found in the RH8.0 release) and 4.2.1 (from mharris' RPMs) - more applications run correctly with 4.2.99, but the hang when exiting/restarting X is new to the 4.2.99 series. It seems not all GLX apps tickle the bug; glaxium and the Atlantis screensaver seem to consistently though. glxgears seems not to. The hang is very hard - the kernel doesn't even respond to ARP queries or the magic SysRq key afterwards. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Preview Atlantis screensaver 2. Logout 3. Machine locks hard on X exit or restart (hard to tell!) Expected Results: X should have restarted at the display manager login Additional info:

Red Hat does not support user compiled software. If you compile it yourself, then please report bugs that occur to the linux kernel mailing list in the case of the kernel, to the dri-devel mailing list in the case of DRI specific related problems, or to the XFree86 xpert mailing list in the case of XFree86. We simply can't debug and troubleshoot all possible permutations of a user's personal compilation environment.
I understand entirely, but I also experienced the same problem with the pre-compiled RPMs. I figured you might be interested to learn that there may be problems with equivalent configurations before you released 4.2.3. Oh well.
