Unpatched versions of libpng 1.2.1 and earlier do not correctly calculate offsets, which leads to a buffer overflow and the possibility of arbitrary code execution. This could be exploited by an attacker creating a carefully crafted PNG file which could execute arbitrary code when the victim views it. Packages within Red Hat Linux, such as Mozilla, make use of the shared libpng library. Therefore, all users are advised to upgrade to the errata packages. We're working on an erratum which will contain a backported fix for this issue to libpng 1.0.14
An errata has been issued which should help the problem described in this bug report. This report is therefore being closed with a resolution of ERRATA.
