RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

There are a lot of vdsm logs, is there an easy way to pick up the one related?
Logs under /var/log/jbossas/rhevm-slimmed since 18 April are missed after rebooting jbossas. Or they are moved to somewhere else?

thanks a lot for the logs, i'm missing the 'continue' command in vdsm log, the only related issue I see is failure in setVmTicket which looks like this:

Thread-117149::DEBUG::2012-05-07 21:00:43,992::BindingXMLRPC::869::vds::(wrapper) client [10.66.11.208]::call vmSetTicket with ('3d00704b-26cd-429b-9fae-d8eb7726e9f1', '6N9/IwMGT4Sz', '120') {}

could you please reproduce again and attach both libivrt & vdsm logs ?

also, will you try the command manually:

vdsClient -s 0 continue d0fd05b2-a549-4e7f-842d-6355b768e224

I reroduced again on d0fd05b2-a549-4e7f-842d-6355b768e224, will attach vdsm log soon, but I find no useful info from libvirt.log since no uuid like d0fd05b2-a549-4e7f-842d-6355b768e224 in libvirt log

I did not find the uuid d0fd05b2-a549-4e7f-842d-6355b768e224 in libvirt.log, so I did not upload it. Attaching this time.

BTW, I warmly suggest to upgrade all components to a newer version (libvirt, VDSM and qemu-kvm are all a bit outdated - almost a month old or so).

This request was not resolved in time for the current release.
Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if still desired, for consideration in
the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Comment 14 Federico Simoncelli 2012-05-16 11:19:16 UTC
I had the opportunity to debug this on Leonid's machine and I noticed that the real problem was:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/vdsm/vm.py", line 567, in _startUnderlyingVm
    self._run()
  File "/usr/share/vdsm/libvirtvm.py", line 1330, in _run
    self._devices[devType].append(devClass(self.conf, self.log, **dev))
  File "/usr/share/vdsm/libvirtvm.py", line 1002, in __init__
    self.blockDev = utils.isBlockDevice(self.path)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/vdsm/utils.py", line 52, in isBlockDevice
    return stat.S_ISBLK(os.stat(path).st_mode)
OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/rhev/data-center/36cc6fbc-9468-11e1-a5e5-001a4a169789/1c60971a-8647-44ac-ae33-6520887f8843/images/a2dd0b3b-928a-4bbe-8371-7eb0a92f929b/2827d3aa-0fb1-4227-b418-c8033094c0b8'

See bug 797526
Such exception was moving the VM to "Paused" when instead the _run method didn't complete, therefore having self._dom = None.
Later on any operation on the vm was failing because of uninitialized values (eg: self._dom).

I suggest to mark this bug as a duplicate of bug 797526
Leonid tested the proposed fix and wasn't able to reproduce the issue anymore (no Paused VMs after restart):
