Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description james labocki 2012-05-09 20:14:10 UTC
This is a request for documentation on MongoDB recovery / Mongodb with journaling for better resilience as well as a general disaster recovery guide.

Comment 1 Mike McCune 2012-05-16 15:30:39 UTC
Lukas, can you put together a wiki writeup on our public page that Lana can refer to for the official docs?

Comment 2 Lukas Zapletal 2012-05-18 13:18:46 UTC
Sure, but I dont understand what is it all about. We already do have disaster recovery plan (restoring from backup), including MongoDB backup. James, can you please elaborate what is this about?

Comment 3 james labocki 2012-05-21 14:34:50 UTC
Lukas, I haven't seen the documentation on recovering MongoDB from backup. I might have missed it. I was looking for something similar to this:

http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Network_Satellite/5.4/html-single/Deployment_Guide/index.html#chap-Getting_Started_Guide-Satellite_Operation_Guidance

http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.0/html-single/Administration_Guide/index.html#Administration_Guide-Backing_Up

In the long run hopefully CloudForms will just create a tool that abstracts the underlying database from the user (for example, `cloudforms-db-tool backup`), but for now just strict guidance on how to backup, recover, and repair the database if there is inconsistency would work. Does that help?

Comment 4 Lukas Zapletal 2012-05-24 10:09:17 UTC
James, we have this:

https://fedorahosted.org/katello/wiki/GuideServerBackups

it is valid for CFSE, it did not make it into the main docs though. I think it should be in the release notes. See bug 787184 and this:

http://documentation-stage.bne.redhat.com/docs/en-US/CloudForms/1.0/html/Release_Notes/chap-Release_Notes-BackupRecovery.html

As you can see, it includes full mongo dump.

We also do have an example script for that in the git. I am closing now, feel free to reopen.
