Seems similar to bug #827632, however here USB backend is used while in bug #827632 it's dnssd (socket) backend. Manuel, - please attach the troubleshooter output once more with the "Add an attachment". - attach the /etc/cups/ppd/hp-LaserJet-3020.ppd Now try the following steps and let me know if any of them make any change: - downgrade to cups-1.5.2 with 'yum downgrade cups cups-libs'. 1.5.3 has improved usb backend (uses libusb-1) which could possibly cause the trouble here. - install hplip and change the driver in system-config-printer to 'HP LaserJet 3020 pcl3, hpcups'

Downgrade of cups made the printer light blinking. Nonetheless it was not printing from evince... Since changing the driver to 'HP LaserJet 3020 pcl3, hpcups' it is working. Hope that helps...
Making this one a duplicate of bug #827632 as they seem to be similar. AFAICT in both cases this print fails when the input format is pdf and driver uses foomatic, so the pdftops and foomatic-rip filters are used. Although I have no idea whether the problem is in pdftops or foomatic or somewhere else. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 827632 ***
Manuel: just to clarify... After you changed the driver to 'HP LaserJet 3020 pcl3, hpcups', can you now print from Evince / Gimp?
Yes, since then printing works perfectly fine.
Thanks. That seems to narrow the problem down to foomatic then.
Created attachment 593750 [details] simple_test.pdf Could you please try printing this file from the command line, like this?: lp -d hp-LaserJet-3020 simple_test.pdf Does that print out correctly?

No, doesn't work: [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ lp -d hp-LaserJet-3020 simple_test.pdf lp: The printer or class does not exist. [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$
this works: [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ lp simple_test.pdf request id is Hewlett-Packard-hp-LaserJet-3020-20 (1 file(s))
this works also: [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ lp -d Hewlett-Packard-hp-LaserJet-3020 simple_test.pdf [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ lpstat Hewlett-Packard-hp-LaserJet-3020-23 schnecki 0 Fri 22 Jun 2012 08:43:37 PM CEST
Thanks. Since this is a different queue to the one mentioned in comment #6 and comment #7, could you please confirm which driver is used? i.e. what does this say?: grep NickName /etc/cups/ppd/Hewlett-Packard-hp-LaserJet-3020.ppd
*ShortNickName: "HP LaserJet 3020" *NickName: "HP LaserJet 3020 pcl3, hpcups 3.12.4"
OK. Could you please create a new queue, using the driver you were having problems with, i.e. the one in comment #7? That's what I'm trying to diagnose. With this new queue, please submit the test PDF as in comment #17 but using the name of the new queue. Does it print out correctly using the foomatic driver?
You gotta be glad I know that printers work with printing queues. Otherwise I wouldn't have known what to do ;) [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ lp -d hp_foomatic simple_test.pdf request id is hp_foomatic-54 (1 file(s)) [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ No page was printed! Printing the test page from the tool "system-config-printer" works however.
oh and the driver I installed for the queue: [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ grep NickName /etc/cups/ppd/hp_foomatic.ppd *ShortNickName: "HP LaserJet 3020 Postscript" *NickName: "HP LaserJet 3020 Foomatic/Postscript" [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ Do you need any other information?
[schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ lp -d hp_foomatic simple_test.pdf && lpstat request id is hp_foomatic-55 (1 file(s)) hp_foomatic-55 schnecki 6144 Mon 25 Jun 2012 03:50:09 PM CEST [schnecki@laptop Downloads]$ Well Gnome also tells me that it sent the job to the printer and afterwards tells me that i got printed... Oh and I do no C, if you want me to debug anything or so!
Created attachment 747193 [details] simple_test.ps (PDF converted with F-18's pdftops) Are you still seeing this problem? If so, could you please try printing this simple_test.ps file and let me know the result?
Hi, I actually did a fresh install of Fedora 18 last week. And yes, the problem still occured. When I am using the recommended driver Foomatic/Postscript then the printer is unable to read the transfered document. It blinks until I cancel the printing job using the printers button. However, Gnome status message tells me immediatelly after sending the document, that it was printed successfully. As soon as I change the driver to hpcups, it works perfectly.
The Device ID it's reporting is this: MFG:Hewlett-Packard;CMD:PJL,MLC,BIDI-ECP,PCL,POSTSCRIPT,PCLXL;MDL:hp LaserJet 3020;CLS:PRINTER;DES:Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 3020;MEM:23MB;COMMENT:RES=600x2; so it *ought* to be able to understand PostScript. In any case, the first-choice driver for this model is currently hpcups in Fedora 18 and 19.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
