RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Bill Sanford 2012-06-28 18:06:38 UTC
Description of problem:
I downloaded RHEL-7.0-20120626.0-Server-x86_64-dvd1.iso and intalled the burned DVD to a PC that has a Matrox VGA card. The minimal install was fine. When the PC rebooted, it was stuck at "Loading initial ramdisk" and wouldn't load the next graphical screen.

I then tried it on a laptop and everything worked.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL-7.0-20120626

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install RHEL 7.0
2. Wait for PC to reboot and hang.
3.

Actual results:
PC hung at the "Loading initial ramdisk" message.

Expected results:
PC should boot to single user mode.

If it's stuck at 'loading initial ramdisk' (before you even get the kernel messages), it's likely stuck well before the graphics card gets into the picture.

I am getting the exact same symptoms using RHEL-7.0-20121029.n.3-Workstation-x86_64 under kvm. Once the VM starts, all I see is:

"""
Booting 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation'

Loading Linux 3.6.0.0-28.el7.x86_64 ...
Loading initial ramdisk ...
_
"""

There is furious disk activity for a few seconds but after that it just hangs with nothing else happening.

Please retest under RHEL 7.0 beta or later. If the problem is still happening, feel free to reopen the bug. If you do reopen the bug, be sure to include steps to reproduce the problem.
