Created attachment 595493 [details] alsa-info output Description of problem: When using the mic built into my webcam, I get loud static on all but the first use (the first time you use it, it works perfectly; it seems to be some issue with reinitializing the device on subsequent attempts). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): alsa-lib-1.0.25-3.fc17.x86_64 kernel-3.4.3-1.fc17.x86_64 How reproducible: Every time after the first use of the device after a reboot. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Reboot 2. Use mic once (it sounds good) 3. Use mic again after the webcam's light has gone off (it sounds terrible) Additional info: Output from alsa-info is attached. Please let me know if any particular logs would be helpful after a reboot for when it's working and not working.
I should also note that this has been the behavior at least as far back as F15. In my time owning the device, the mic has not worked properly. I would also like to note that I have had no such issues using this same webcam on a Windows computer several times. I own two of these, and both exhibit this behavior in Linux but not in Windows.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
I actually just tried the cam's mic the other day, and it appears this was fixed at some point during F18's life. Current F18 doesn't seem to exhibit this issue. I'm guessing a kernel update some time back fixed it and I just didn't notice 'til now.
