Comment 4 Nils Philippsen 2012-07-25 13:17:14 UTC
Hi.

The backtrace is a bit problematic as several libraries seem to have been updated while the process was running, i.e. the library locations may have changed. Even leaving this aside, malloc() should only ever crash as a result of heap corruption introduced previously, i.e. is a consecutive fault. To be able to get at the root cause, I need additional information (not sure if this is enough however):

- What did you do in GIMP that led to this error?
- glibc tends to spit out error messages when encountering "problems" during allocation or deallocation of memory. Have you saved them somewhere? They may be in the file ~/.xsession-errors if you haven't logged out and in again since this happened. Please check if this file contains any relevant error messages. If you can't find them, perhaps because you logged out and back in again, or rebooted in the meantime, can you reproduce the error? Start gimp from the command line/a terminal to be able to capture error messages.

Thanks.

Comment 5 eddie_strantor 2012-07-25 14:07:38 UTC
I was editing windows size of text after I texted on it so it fits to the image. Suddenly GIMP stop working and get killed.

I don't know where to find the file but I'm sure I did not restart my computer or logged out after the error.
I also tried to reproduce the error but the tool works fine. Maybe it isn't the tool.

Thanks.

Comment 6 eddie_strantor 2012-07-25 14:21:43 UTC
Found it.
Searched for GIMP and I find thousands and thousands of this:

"(gimp:2252): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from `GdkOffscreenWindow' to `GdkWindowImplX11'

(gimp:2252): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from `GdkOffscreenWindow' to `GdkDrawableImplX11'"

and also the same for this:

"(gimp:10922): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from `GdkOffscreenWindow' to `GdkDrawableImplX11'

(gimp:10922): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from `GdkOffscreenWindow' to `GdkDrawableImplX11'"

Comment 7 Nils Philippsen 2012-07-25 14:43:27 UTC
Is this file anywhere near a size where you could attach it (compressed if necessary) to this bug report? The lines you quoted probably don't contribute to your problem, but may drown out other pertinent messages. Thanks!

.xsession-errors

Comment 9 Nils Philippsen 2012-11-06 16:53:30 UTC
Sorry for taking so long to respond. The .xsession-errors file didn't help in finding out what the issue caused unfortunately. Have you seen this error with the updated version 2.8.2 of GIMP?

Comment 10 eddie_strantor 2012-11-06 20:42:21 UTC
No worry. I'm no longer in Fedora. I'm now on Kubuntu and no, I haven't seen this error on the updated version.
I'm trying to reproduce it again, but nothing happens.
