Kickstart file for a "reuse old partitions" install

Description of problem: I have two very similar kickstart files "nuke.ks" and "reuse.ks". I use "nuke" to install the OS while totally repartitioning the boot disk. Then I use "reuse.ks" to reinstall onto the root and boot partitions (reformatting just them), leaving all other partitions alone.

This works fine on RHEL6, but not on Fedora-17.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora-17 release

How reproducible: 100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. PXE/Kickstart install with nuke.ks
2. PXE/Kickstart install with reuse.ks which fails
3.

Actual results: Installer fails as indicated below
Pops up a GUI screen (untitled) showing two columns labelled "Data Storage Device" and "Installed Target Device". Obviously something has failed to get here. When I click "Next" I get an error dialog titled "Automatic Partitioning Errors", and listing two errors:

a) "You have not defined a root partition (/)..."
b) "You have not create a bootable partition..."

Expected results: Successful reinstall

Additional info: I have attached the two kickstart files. They are served from a cobbler server that fills in the url for the distro tree.

Please attach all the log files from /tmp/*log when you run into the error. This will help us diagnose the issue.

I'm going to skip X.log and ifcfg.log as "boring". Let me know if they are in fact really, really "exciting" :-)

Comment 8 Brian Lane 2013-05-07 23:43:27 UTC
Things have changed considerably since F17, we no longer have the 'reuse partitions' option.

What! That doesn't seem to correspond to either reality, nor common sense. I'm using the --noformat and --useexisting, just like the Fedora-18 documentation indicates.

I have attached the Fedora-18 docs in case there is any question (from http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda/Kickstart#Chapter_2._Kickstart_Options).

Comment 11 Fedora End Of Life 2013-07-04 05:36:36 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '17'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the
'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 12 Fedora End Of Life 2013-08-01 16:50:42 UTC
Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
