Description phil 2012-08-20 07:17:29 UTC
Description of problem:
I have two monitors connected to each DVI output on my 7600
GT. I usually keep one disabled. On startup, GDM displays on both monitors. Once I login, the second monitor displays garbage (or rather a scrambled version of the enabled monitor). Running xrandr shows only one output is enabled:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 4096 x 4096
DVI-I-1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

   720x400 70.1
TV-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

I can get it to turn off the output by toggling it on and off in the Gnome control panel.

How reproducible:
Everytime

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot up
2. Login with GDM
3. Monitor on "disabled" output will be scrambled
4. Open "System Settings" -> "Displays".
5. Select disabled disable and turn it on. Press apply.
6. Answer yes to keep configuration.
7. Select the same display. Turn it off. Press apply.
8. Answer yes to keep configuration. The monitor will actually be off now instead of showing scrambled junk.

Actual results:
Monitor on "disabled" output shows scrambled junk.

Expected results:
Monitor does not show anything. This is what I see in step 8 above. It should be the same in step 3.

How exactly do you "usually keep one disabled" ?

Comment 3 phil 2012-08-21 05:50:40 UTC
I have it set to off in the "Displays" settings in gnome shell. This setting (just like the screen resolution setting) is persistent across reboots.

After I login on, the second monitor starts displaying the scrambled junk even though Xrandr and the "Displays" settings show that the output is disabled.

Okay thanks. I'll try and see if I can reproduce it here and track down what's responsible.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2013-07-03 21:05:57 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '17'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the
'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2013-07-31 21:53:51 UTC
Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
