Created attachment 626849 [details] output of $ cat /var/log/pm-suspend.log Resume from suspend results in a black screen. The system is not stuck as I can access to a terminal console and I can reboot, but there's nothing I can see. The screen seems completely dead. My gpu is an Ati 4200 (there also is an Ati 5650M but I disable it via switcheroo on every boot). I use a radeon Feel free to ask me further details: I'm a newbie to this reporting system and I apologise for my English. Here is the output of "# lspci -k |grep -iA 6 vga" 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility Radeon HD 4200] Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 1440 Kernel driver in use: radeon 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Madison [AMD Radeon HD 5000M Series] (rev ff) Kernel driver in use: radeon 02:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5600 Series] (rev ff) Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel 03:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 3040 Kernel driver in use: ath9k
I have the same problem, in fedora 18 (17 was fine for me): $ lspci -k |grep -iA 6 vga 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Redwood [Radeon HD 5670] Subsystem: Dell Device 68e0 Kernel driver in use: radeon 01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Redwood HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5000 Series] Subsystem: Dell Device aa60 Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57788 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01)
I have a similar problem. When the output is on the integrated video, black screen after suspend happens # cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch 0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:01:05.0 1:DIS: :Pwr:0000:02:00.0 or # cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch 0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:01:05.0 1:DIS: :Off:0000:02:00.0 But when I switch to the discrete card using: echo DDIS > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch then everything is working fine. The system is resumed properly. # cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch 0:IGD: :Off:0000:01:05.0 1:DIS:+:Pwr:0000:02:00.0 When I turn off Xpress Power Mode from bios (i.e. disable integrated video), the system is also resumed properly. These are my video cards when both are enabled: # lspci | grep VGA 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS780M/RS780MN [Mobility Radeon HD 3200 Graphics] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV710 [Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 Series] And this is the output when Xpress Power mode is turned off (i.e. integrated video is OFF) # lspci | grep VGA 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV710 [Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 Series] My laptop is ASUS K50AB with ATI Radeon HD4570 512MB, using Fedora 18 / GNOME3. When I installed ATI proprietary drivers from rpm-fusion xorg-x11-drv-catalyst (i tried legacy as well), the laptop didn't boot at all. It hung just before gdm . I had to switch to a console (ctrl + alt + F2) to remove the driver. The problem is that I prefer using my integrated video, as well as to use suspend sometime, but now it is impossible.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
